Well if there is one thing to say about poetry, it sure has been going through some changes for the better. The Internet has opened up so many venues to poets, with MP3 and lovely presentations of author’s works...giving much presence to a 'poets world’.
In ways as never before, we are brought into view of such award-winning poets as Elisha Porat, Janet I. Buck and Ward Kelley for all to view and enjoy in cyberspace…for free.
Mr. Porat is particularly interesting in the fact that he speaks and writes fluent Hebrew with some limited understanding in English. Over the years he has, with the aid of translators, managed to have published his short stories ' The Messiah of LaGuardia' and is one of the many poets to be published in the anthology 'After the First Rain : Israeli Poems on War and Peace', being one of several of his translation works being sold worldwide. He has had 17 books published and has a new electronic English book published by Funky Dog Press, with the title of his poems being "Poetry is a sudden process of verbal compression". He has been a published author since the early 70s and is the winner of ‘1996 Israel's Prime Minister's Prize for Literature.’ Indeed, a very worthy and humble, poet-writer of our times.
Mr. Ward Kelley also presents a great stir when mentioning the word poetry. Kelley a resident of Indianapolis, USA, has not only published two novels, "Divine Murder" and "Keenly Alive Tony," represented by The Sternig & Byrne Literary Agency but has had published three poetry collections, "Histories of Souls," "Enslaved," and "Comedy Incarnate". He was nominated for the 1999 Pushcart Award; after completing an interview with Israeli poet Elisha Porat and has been accepted by Rattle for the second time; Sunstone, Porcupine Literary Magazine; the Ezines Pif, 2River View, Oblique and Offcourse; also by print magazines Potpourri and Skylark.
Janet Buck has also many offerings of poetry out there in cyberspace. This lady is quite well known in the literary community, especially the Internet. Ms. Buck has also been nominated for 'The Pushcart Prize for Poetry' and she is the winner of 'The H.G. Wells Award for Literary Excellence'
Newton's Baby Press has just released Ms. Bucks' book of poetry 'Calamity's Quilt'.
One of Janet's poems will be featured at the 'One Heart, One World' Exhibit at the United Nations Exhibit Hall in New York City in April 2000. Her poem 'Acrylic Thighs' is being translated into five languages and will be matched up with original artwork.
A tour will commence travel to France, Australia, Vietnam, Brazil, and Japan, Exhibit Hall in New York City in April, 2000.
These are only a few of the poets who are indeed pleasantly, Internet accessible and I expect that the fast moving technology of tomorrow will bring some of the best writers of the day out to be viewed.
So look out literary world…here we come!
