Prayer in Time of War

Lead me back to the sphere
Where Wonder conquers Fear.
If I should trip the land mine
Or fall prey to a bomb
Let it never be said
I tiptoed gingerly
Or tried to evade the cascade.

If I should fall by act of war
Let the mortar of battle not crush
The memory of how I lived:
Pensive but not passive,
Receptive yet on the qui vive.
