A GRAIN OF SAND

I am like a single grain
of sand in a desert --

blown about by winds
onto several pathways --

effecting people's lives
in miniature proportions --

threatening to blind
when angered --

or serving as a soft warm
bed on a sunny beach --

the wind is my friend
the sun fires my soul --

I am time's worse enemy
when I am used to measure it --

I am golden like a star
without a shine --

this grain does not feel pain
to think, all that worldly pain --

is buried beneath this grain
of sand in the desert.
