Today there was a magnificent rainbow,
As a magpie perched, outside my window,
In the aftermath of a storm.
     I went down to the river,
To walk away a gnawing, nostalgia; wearying my mind.

Vibrant shades of blue, indigo,gold and orange above,
Tucked in amongst greens and roses of oncoming summer.
I truly did try to climb over this rainbow, to fetch the pot of gold.
     I was too late,
But I did see my pinnacle, and nearly touched its gown of promise.

Life has blessed me, with a love for natural beauty;
As I have gazed upon the fields of wildflowers, in late spring;
A willow that bends, in the warmth of April breezes;
Blossoms that blow, in clouds of pink and white that twirl,
And float on wind as perfect confetti, for a spring bride.

The bench is waiting, as per norm,
I set this old body down, to view a masterpiece.
A Van Gough that crosses from one bank to the other,
Miles of flawless panoramic beauty either way;
A genuine feast for the eyes,
And there's my friendly crow, to greet me!

Swans, geese, cranes and mallards, swim in unison,
While the eagle keeps watch on high, for one simple mistake;
     a flaw in the species it hunts.
Two dogs frolic in the waters of the Thompson;
They seek, find and fetch for their master, with happy barks
And I pine for my friends, my buddies of old;
     their joyous sounds
     and I seek not a care in the world.

It's a peaceful day, on this sunny afternoon, on a river walk
And I try to take heart once again.
Nostalgia passes, and now it's time to retire home;
Not forgetting my melancholy hauntings
But framing them within a remembrance of love and perfection,
     as today,
     the rainbow, ran across the river
     and coloured my heart, with gold.
