Native Man

To embrace the infinite
Was to hold your love
Beauty of a native man’s face
So coppered by the sun
Smile with not but grace
Yet with love, you could ne’er find place

To bear your child
One wintry night
On some distant shore in time
Brave young girl
Smiled long on her own
Trying to tame wintry heart of the wild

Patiently waiting
For a turn of the heart
Mother and son forgotten
Lost by the way
So without recourse
Love soon lost its faith
To the foul cold winds of truth’s face

Now
you’re the man in the moon
I wished for one June
Sadly now
my new moon has no face
...
