Horses in Summer

Two silver horses
take to the fields
romping, jumping majestically
with each other
in twilight’s lush, blue light.
They gaze long, life-eyed looks
into a pond mirror...
Then the fiery animals
pull on the grasses,
and lash each other
with flashing, shimmering tails
and begin the great race of Block Island.
