DREAMER

Weeping, withering __ ever moaning __ gloom of day
How far I have strayed from the shores and mountains
And how I miss the rain on my face
And still__ I am here, holding onto a fading dream

Silently, I light a gardenia scented candle,
To set at beside, in the night __as if;
As if by some magical twist of fate, he will appear
To hold my hand, to show comfort and care

By moon's light, I have pondered our love
Seeing his face, only to have it vanish from sight
__ this delicate butterfly, that takes wing so quickly
__leaving only a flicker of hope, to see me through

Rocking by the light of harvest moon
Autumn is showing its presence
And that familiar odour of damp leaves__fills me
My beloved, favourite time of year

Geese head south, and somehow I wish to follow
This old Irish heart saddens, and harbours a desire
__for something, it never really knew
As an ocean ripple, washes over the sands on a beach __ gone

In dreams of late, I find myself, on these shorelines
Holding a lantern __I set off through driving rains
Bare feet in sand, numbed by the cold frothy waters
Then you are with me, alit in smiles and laughter!
Free from the worry of day, we speak not a word
As not to wake the sleeping heart

It is there, our eyes speak only
It is there, we never see uncertainties
It is there, we survive __in wisps of fantasy
And the folly of reality finds us not

Each day awakens this dreamer, and seasons do pass
__to find me nestled in my linen
But there will come a time, to wake no more
Til then, a dream will suffice to comfort me in slumber
So I’ll never walk__these shores alone, no more
