VacancyI cry out:
How wild and careless is humankind
that youth should lack so much compassion
for its peers?Pick
and pull like vultures at a carcassCries the lost voice
Pleading in the night for guidance
Afraid to state her lot in life
Blaming her own self worth
By seething, judging eyes of predators
who lack one shred of kindness
for suffering others than their selfish selvesDawn It was not you who lacked
It was the eye of jealousy to mock
Your gentleness, they feared
Your torment was that of blood to sharks
In gluttonous movement they beat down your wallsMy God, We weep, We mourn;
The worried women __ for our youthCry out -- My Lord, the scarcity of love!
It makes one tremble __ is there a future?What made these children care so less;
Was it inbred seeds of hate?
How is it possible, this loss of compassion?Lament!
What deviltry breeds such loathe in children?
Education please __ make me understand
the cruelties of this earth
And why one young lady must take her life
to flee the threats of peersWho will learn?
Will the perpetrators?Dawn, you felt burdened—and afraid
as the weight of a world
would seek you to escape
and deem a run for death
as a one and only route to safetyHere lies one vacancy, one heart for rent
For you and you alone
To grant you place inside sweet Dawn
I close my eyes and pray, in lieu of all that you have sufferedAn everlasting well wish accompany you with angels of mercy
Let a silent prayer be ever-present
In resonating tones to bring you peace
__ Dawn
