Cocoon

The cocoon is open, why not fly?
You've earned the wings to soar
Your gown sparkles in the bright sun of day
come now, fly!

The cage has held you for so long
And you've grown accustomed to your shackles
Solitary one _ a metamorphosis awaits
This is your time to spread your wings
So much to see, no time to waste

Extend your wings and feel the breezes in lilting songs
     romance the whispers of flight
Beauty waits at every door, for your taking
Have your fill, throw off the old millstones
So you may truly hold a gathering of the ways

Winter soon _ will be upon you gentle one
And southern warmth will call
     The inevitable, migration calls
Father time shows no favourites __ in this scheme of things
So when the cocoon is finally shed,
          heed the call and fly.
