David Ingram on review of
The First Fifty Years
The First Fifty Years is a finely crafted book of poetry, displaying both the versatile talent of the author’s artistic character and writing capabilities.
Pages progress in style and emotional involvement, as creativity develops, drawing the reader into a whirlpool of unleashed understanding of a life and its surroundings.
At the birth of this poet’s writing, she manages to draw attention and a need to express herself dramatically, as in
I Survive. This piece displays an inner courage and parallels the beauty of nature, while enduring a strong sense of meaning.
The first two lines "This heart has pioneered mountains majestic…and made wake in angry seas", draws the eyes in, to actually capture the art of the written word, painting a verbal picture of strength in spirit and nature - - coaxing the reader on.
Native Man also casts imagery of nature, only this time to really capture the heart, as in the opening lines "To embrace the infinite … was to hold your love"…"beauty of a native man’s face". The essence of lost love is most vividly depicted.
All in all this is an enjoyable read, that allows us to journey alongside the author, in a genesis of self-discovery during The First Fifty Years of a life.
David Ingram is a Canadian - U. S. Tax Specialist, residing on the lower mainland of British Columbia. He is also the host of a well watched, local TV talk show on Channel 4 called Ingram.
His television interviews are very broad ranged in that he deals with people of all political, religious and economical background.
In general, his book reviews are based on factual-type writing but in making an exception to the rule by reading The First Fifty Years he quotes this line by Tennyson saying: "I am a part of all that I have done", then continues on to endorse the above brilliant review.
