Countless men and women have taught that the major purpose of life is to learn and practice not the art of reaching goals, but the “art of love.” We long to interlace our hearts and hands with a beloved. All to rarely do we stop and let ourselves realize what a gift love is. We get so bound up in our wants, needs and expectations, we lose track of what is being given. We forget love is a gift and we cannot own it. We can try so hard to control love but all we end up doing, is pushing it away. We don’t have to be related by blood, nationality or even language to love. For love is the connecting force of the Universe, the divine energy flow between our Creator, our loved ones and our selves. It is friendship that has caught fire, taking root and growing and expanding. It is that patient quiet understanding and mature acceptance of imperfection. Love closes the distance and completes the circle even when we are miles apart. Love never gives up. Its faith, hope and patience, never cease. Love, fills the void in our hearts and softens the cutting edge of any experience. Love is the simplest thing in the world yet, we often make it the most complicated.
Love is not critical, shaming or abusive. Nor is love controlling, humiliating or manipulative. Love does not demean, or belittle and love is not painful. Love is not addiction, and love is not taking hostage or being taken hostage. Love is not about success, achievement or recognition.
True love is eternal and boundless and it pervades the very creation of life itself. In its highest aspirations, love is the heartbeat of life creating harmony and bringing transformation and unity. When we discover this kind of love, we have tasted supreme joy and unlimited possibilities.
Some may forget our harsh words, while others what we do. But, no one forgets how we make them feel. Cultivating love begins within each of us. Once the gateway of love is opened, life is filled with extra-ordinary moments.
