Jimmy Hurd began writing stories,
poetry, and prose over thirty years ago. Born in Monroe Michigan,
the author has spent most of his life in the southern and western
United States, with the exception of an extended tour in Korea while
serving in the US Army. He describes his early years as his
“Migrant” years.
“My step dad was a carpenter and he would take us with him to
wherever he found work. We’ve lived in Ohio, Indiana, West Virginia,
Texas, and Florida. On my own, I’ve added Tennessee and Georgia to
that list.”
Jimmy began writing to amuse his maternal grandmother, who
eventually succumbed to complications associated with Alzheimer’s
disease in 1993 while convalescing at her home in Clearwater,
Florida.
“She was always a little ditzy, and I mean that in a good way. At
over seventy years old she liked to wear her bikini and sun herself
outdoors, walking the beach as if she were still a young girl. She
was the positive I so desperately needed as a child; to her,
anything was possible and she never let me forget that. She just
always made me feel like she loved me best.”
Jimmy has been employed in the auto industry for twenty seven
years, going to work for Ford Motor Company in 1978. After an
extended layoff, he transferred to Atlanta Georgia in 1984.
Jimmy currently lives in Fayetteville Georgia with his wife
Patricia. Jimmy has three children; Vaughn, Sarah, and Madison.
